Travel FX customers use our international money transfer services for all sorts of different reasons. It was great to catch up with restaurant owners Santiago and Sofia to find out how our currency exchange services have benefited them and their families.

Ten years ago Santiago came to the UK to bring us a taste of Mexico. He opened a restaurant in Manchester, which he and Sofia have grown into a hugely successful business. When Santiago arrived here, it was just him, his wife and his baby son. He had left behind his mum, dad and two brothers, his wife had left behind her family, and they both had a large wider families in Mexico.

In the early days, Santiago and Sofia worked tirelessly to get the restaurant up and running and had very little time to get back to Mexico. Over the years, they have created a trusted team in the restaurant, so they are able to hand over the reins to their manager José and travel back to Mexico on a more regular basis. Santiago uses Travel FX to transfer the money he needs for his trips to his bank account in Mexico.

“When I first came to  the UK it was just me, my wife and our first son. We were working very hard to set up the business so we had very little free time to go back and see the family. Now we have three children. It is really important to us that our children get to know their grandparents, aunties, uncles and cousins, so travelling to Mexico has become much more of a priority. The restaurant is now very well established and we love living in the UK, so we wouldn’t want to change any of that. But now we have the opportunity to travel back to Mexico regularly.”
